FAQs
How many puzzles should I bring? Is there a minimum or maximum?
Try to bring 2 or more. You will have the opportunity to get at least 4.
What kind of puzzles should I bring?
Puzzles for all ages and abilities are welcome. Please bring puzzles in good condition. If a puzzle is missing any pieces, leave a note on the OUTSIDE of the box so someone can decide whether or not they want it before getting home.
How should I pack my puzzles?
If possible, please place pieces in a ziplock bag before putting them in the box, and put a rubber band around the box as well. This will prevent missing pieces since the boxes are traveling so far (from your house, into your car, into the library, back out of the library, into another house...).
How does the swap work?
There are many possible formats.
All puzzles are collected, put on their respective tables by piece count, and everyone can browse the available puzzles. At check in, everyone is given a colored chip. When your color is called, you go to the swap tables and choose a puzzle. After everyone has had a turn, we will begin round two of color calling (colors are called randomly, for the sake of fairness). We do this for a few rounds, then open the floor at the end and you are welcome to take the remaining puzzles.
Summary: You put your puzzles on a table and then take whatever puzzles you want — it’s not a 1:1 swap (do you want this, I’ll trade you that.)
What should my goal be?
Different people have different goals. Here are some we've heard.
To leave with less than I brought.
To leave with more than I brought.
To meet new puzzle friends.
To have fun!
How often do you have these swaps?
You are welcome to host swaps as well; we are happy to give you advice, just ask!
How many people have you had at these swaps?
At our latest two swaps at the Mandarin Library (Jan and May 2025), there were 53 attendees.
Can I make individual trades?
Yes, of course. We suggest you post a photo of what you are bringing on the facebook page and that you are open to pre-trading; at that point, someone may comment or message you and show you a photo of what they have. You can meet in the parking lot before you come into the library, or bring it into the library and find each other during the general swap.
Can I sell my puzzles?
Yes. Not on swap day though, that decreases the fun for everyone. Please post your items in the group either a few weeks before or after a swap. Also, please do not attend a swap with the intent of getting free items to resell them.
Any other questions? Want to volunteer with us?
Please speak with the organizers. Thank you!
