APPLEGATE RIVER FLORA
This is your opportunity to learn the plants that grow along the Applegate River! Led by some of the best botanists in southern Oregon, Julie Spellitich and Richard Callagan from Siskiyou BioSurvey, this workshop will look at the riparian plants that call the Applegate River home. From wetland and streambank wildflowers, to sedges, rushes, grasses, shrubs and trees, riparian plants shape the habitat quality along the river. Workshop participants will learn about the native and non-native plants. Get to know the Applegate River that defines the Applegate River watershed a little better by learning more about the flora!
Please arrive a few minutes early for this workshop that will start at 11am at the Red Lily Vineyards tasting room. We will then walk to the river for the workshop.
Workshop leader bios:
Richard Callagan is a southern Oregon native and co-founder of Siskiyou BioSurvey, an ecological and botanical consulting service. He has been conducting botanical surveys for 39 years and is intimately familiar with the vascular, bryophyte, lichen and fungi species of Oregon. Previously, he worked in other forest-related jobs including reforestation, trail construction, thinning, and stocking surveys. Richard has a wealth of knowledge from botany, history, ecology and wildlife biology that he is looking forward to sharing with you.
Julie Spelletich is a co-owner of Siskiyou BioSurvey, an ecological and botanical consulting service. She has a deep love for anything botanical and has been working as a professional botanist and plant ecologist in southern Oregon forests for 20 years. She has a special interest in native seed propagation and collecting. Her early love of plants was expressed through her extensive work in organic farming, nursery work, and seed growing with Seeds of Change and on her own farm in New Mexico.
