1790 Challenge

The 1790 Challenge is an annual event that promotes physical and mental well-being, particularly within the Coast Guard community. It centers around a challenging workout designed to foster teamwork and fitness while encouraging open dialogue about mental health.

The core of the challenge is a 1790-yard (1.02-mile) sandbag carry. Participants are challenged to carry a weight (maximum 100 lbs for men, 70 lbs for women) the entire distance and then return to support and assist other participants. The event can be organized in various settings, including neighborhoods, USCG units, and community parks.
Purpose of the 1790 Challenge

Promote Physical and Mental Health: The challenge emphasizes the importance of teamwork and fitness in fostering overall well-being.

Inspire Mental Health Conversations: The challenge encourages open discussions about mental health within the community, reminding individuals that they are not alone in their struggles.

Support Veterans: A key objective of the challenge is to raise funds for organizations dedicated to empowering and equipping USCG veterans to overcome adversity and achieve post-traumatic growth.

The name and some of the messaging behind the challenge allude to the founding of the US Coast Guard on August 4, 1790.
