Understanding Water Supply in the Rogue Valley

Learn about surface water sources for irrigation in Jackson and parts of Josephine County, including the Applegate Valley, Evans Creek, Bear Creek Valley, within the Middle and Upper Rogue Valley areas. We will discuss the reliability and flexibility of each water source by looking at past records of reservoir levels, river flow rates, snow pack, and rainfall.

We will also review crop water requirements and irrigation seasons, irrigation district management, and reservoir management. The attendees will be able to use tools from the class to locate their water source in future years, to aid in the decision-making process for what crops to grow and the level of production expected based on water supply.

Instructor Biography:
Paul DeMaggio is the Water Resources Engineer with Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District, where he has over 12 years of experience working on agricultural, water-resource, and water-quality projects in Jackson County. He is a registered Professional Agricultural Engineer in the State of Oregon, a Certified Agricultural Irrigation Specialist, a Certified Irrigation Designer, and has a B.S. in BioResource and Agricultural Engineering from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo.
