– ABOUT DEAR EVAN HANSEN –
A deeply moving contemporary musical, Dear Evan Hansen follows Evan, a socially anxious high schooler whose life changes after a lie spirals out of control. When a classmate’s death leads others to believe Evan was his best friend, Evan suddenly finds himself at the center of a viral movement about connection and belonging. As he basks in newfound attention, he must confront what it means to be seen, to tell the truth, and to truly connect in an age of social media and isolation.

Seeking actors of all genders, ethnicities, and ages for the following roles:
EVAN HANSEN: Male identifying, plays 17. Smart, sincere, and excruciatingly self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all. Must be a strong pop tenor: G2-B4.
ZOE MURPHY: Female Identifying, plays 16. Sensitive and sophisticated with a sharp sense of humor, one of those popular kids who doesn’t care and doesn’t play the high school social status games. Zoe is troubled by the ambivalence she feels over her brother’s death. Pop Soprano: F3-E5.
ALANA BECK: Female Identifying, plays 17. Earnest to a fault, prone to and thrives on melodrama all of which hides a deeper loneliness and insecurity beneath an ever-present smile and an almost aggressive friendliness. Pop Soprano: F3-E5.
CONNOR MURPHY: Male Identifying, plays 17. An angry and disaffected loner, Connor has been a troubled kid for as long as anyone can remember. He is approached with caution by his peers and is a mystery to his parents. Pop Bari-Tenor: G2-G4.
JARED KLEINMAN: Male Identifying, plays 17. Droll and sarcastic, he covers his insecurities with a well-practiced swagger and a know-it-all arrogance. Pop Tenor: A2-B4.
HEIDI HANSEN: Female Identifying, 40s-50s. Evan’s mother, she loves him fiercely but isn’t always able to “help” him and fears they have begun to grow apart. She is prepared to do anything to support her son and repair the damage. Pop Alto: F#3-E5.
CYNTHIA MURPHY: Female Identifying, 40s-50s. Connor and Zoe’s mother. She appears to be the perfect mother, kind, nurturing, available, easy to talk to, but her own children may feel otherwise. Pop Soprano: F#3-E5.
LARRY MURPHY: Male identifying, 40s. Connor and Zoe’s father. Though often tense and taciturn, Larry shows a different face to the world, representing for Evan the dad he always wished for: strong, confident, and more than anything: reliable. Strong Pop Vocalist: F#2-G4.
