Join us for From Douglass to Duck Hill, a powerful afternoon of remembrance, justice, and healing. Inspired by Frederick Douglass’s iconic speech “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”, this gathering connects past and present through film, dialogue, and ceremony.
Featuring a screening of the short film Bootjack & Red, based on the 1937 Duck Hill lynchings, this event includes a live reading, musical tribute, and a racial healing ceremony with sacred soil from the lynching site.
Virtual guest speakers include Wright Thompson, Dr. Eddie Glaude, Kiese Laymon, and Robert P. Jones.
Free & open to the public. Donations welcome to support the expansion of Bootjack & Red and Mississippi-based racial healing programs.
Also check out other Entertainment events in Jackson.
