Un son pour l’avenir. Il est merveilleux de voir comment le jazz belge continue à se renouveler, avec de nouveaux talents qui émergent constamment pour enrichir la scène vibrante. Bodem, le trio de la saxophoniste Adia Vanheerentals, est l’un des nouveaux venus les plus frappants. Elle a récemment fait son entrée dans De Twintigers van Klara, les jeunes musiciens à suivre.
Avec Bodem, elle excelle dans les mélodies lyriques et l’interaction fraîche et collective. Pour ce faire, Vanheerentals s’entoure de la batteuse Anke Verslype et du guitariste Willem Malfliet. Verslype, quant à elle, impressionne avec son aki subtilement puissant (voir : BRAND !), tandis que Malfliet aime traîner dans la zone entre pop et jazz avec Woolvs, entre autres. Ils sont les compagnons idéaux pour porter sur scène les compositions courtes mais imaginatives de la saxophoniste. Le premier album ’Little March’, publié par le tout nouveau label de Nicolas Rombouts, MOKUHI Sonorities, a immédiatement séduit par sa combinaison charmante d’intimité et d’énergie. Pensez non seulement aux cafés bruns, mais aussi aux atmosphères estivales et aux bonbons roses. Le trio travaille actuellement sur un deuxième album, à paraître prochainement, avec lequel il partira en tournée.

Een geluid voor de toekomst. Het is prachtig om te zien hoe de Belgische jazz zich blijft vernieuwen en steeds weer nieuwe talenten opduiken die zorgen voor een verrijking van de bruisende scene. Een van de opvallende nieuwkomers is Bodem, het trio rond saxofoniste Adia Vanheerentals. Zij schopte het pas nog tot De Twintigers van Klara, jonge muzikanten om in het oog te houden. Met Bodem blinkt ze uit in lyrische melodieën en frisse, collectieve interactie. Hiervoor omringt Vanheerentals zich met drumster Anke Verslype en gitarist Willem Malfliet. Verslype maakt intussen indruk met het subtiel overrompelende aki (zie : BRAND !), terwijl Malfliet graag uithangt in de zone tussen pop en jazz met o.m. Woolvs. Het zijn de ideale metgezellen om de korte, maar vol verbeelding zittende composities van de saxofoniste naar het podium te brengen. Debuutalbum ’Kleine mars’ uitgegeven door het kersverse label MOKUHI Sonorities van Nicolas Rombouts, pakte meteen uit met een charmante combinatie van intimiteit en energie. Denk niet alleen aan bruine kroegen, maar aan zomerse sferen en roze snoepgoed. Het trio werkt nu aan een tweede album dat binnenkort verschijnt en waarmee ze op tournee zullen gaan.

A sound for the future. It is wonderful to see how Belgian jazz continues to renew itself, with new talents constantly emerging to enrich the vibrant scene. One of the striking newcomers is Bodem, the trio around saxophonist Adia Vanheerentals. She recently made it to De Twintigers van Klara, young musicians to keep an eye on. With Bodem, she excels in lyrical melodies and fresh, collective interaction. For this, Vanheerentals surrounds herself with drummer Anke Verslype and guitarist Willem Malfliet. Verslype, meanwhile, impresses with the subtly overpowering aki (see : BRAND !), while Malfliet enjoys hanging out in the zone between pop and jazz with Woolvs, among others. They are the ideal companions to bring the saxophonist’s short but imaginative compositions to the stage. Debut album ‘Little March’ released by Nicolas Rombouts’ brand-new label MOKUHI Sonorities, immediately picked up with a charming combination of intimacy and energy. Think not just brown pubs, but summer atmospheres and pink candy. The trio is now working on a second album to be released soon, with which they will tour.
