Hello Hawkeye Alumni and Fans!
It was a tough battle for the Hawkeyes last weekend in Ames. In a hard-fought rivalry game, we fell to Iowa State 16-13, with the Cyclones securing the win with a late 54-yard field goal.
Despite the loss, there were some bright spots on offense and defense. Quarterback Mark Gronowski had a two-yard touchdown run, and the team's rushing attack was effective, with Jaziun Patterson leading the way with 60 yards on 11 attempts. Drew Stevens was perfect on the day, connecting on a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 36-yarder in the third. The defense also played well, limiting a high-powered Iowa State offense to only 238 yards and 16 points.
This week, the Hawkeyes return home to Kinnick Stadium for their final non-conference matchup against UMass. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th, at 7:30 PM. Iowa is a heavy favorite, and this should be a great opportunity for the offense to find its rhythm and for the team to bounce back before heading into Big Ten play. It's a "Gold Out" at Kinnick, and we'll be cheering them on from afar.
This football season, the Columbia Iowa Club is going to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia, SC by collecting Pop Tabs. Collect the aluminum tabs off your beverage and soup cans and bring them to our gamewatches. We will collect them all season long and then donate the pop tabs to our local Ronald McDonald House Charities, so they can recycle them in exchange for money. All proceeds from this program benefit their mission. The power of individuals performing small acts of charity is amazing!
