Up your crafting game from “projects in grocery bags” to projects that ARE grocery bags! Design and sew a lined tote bag and customize it with simple heat transfer vinyl images or text (as desired).
Even if this is your first time meeting a sewing machine IRL, you will leave the Fab Lab with a finished, lined tote bag. More experienced sewists can add pockets and other customizations or simply enjoy a simple project created among friends.
All materials are provided – we have a ton of fabric options available! AND... we know that what we have may not match your personal aesthetic. If you need a specific fabric color or pattern to be happy with your creation, you should probably bring it. Below are the amounts of specific materials used in this project that you may have strong opinions about:
- ½ yard outer fabric (canvas, denim, quilting cotton, or other
non-stretch fabric)
- ½ yard lining fabric (lighter-weight cotton recommended)
- 2 yards of webbing or other strap material
This is a fundraising class for our upcoming move and is offered on $35-$65 sliding scale.
Instructor info - Marsha is a serial-crafter: she is the sewing, sublimation and embroidery champion at the Fab Lab. If you have any questions about this class, send us a message here or email
