UPDATE: This event has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 23.
Join us for a joyful community celebration in honor of ICPL’s own Sam Helmick, recently inaugurated as President of the American Library Association.
This open-house style event is free and open to all.
Patrons will be invited to share their favorite library memories or how libraries have impacted their lives. Select stories may be featured on the Library’s YouTube channel and social media.
Light refreshments will be served and there will be a special appearance by the ICPL Book Bike.
The event highlights the theme of Sam’s upcoming ALA presidency — “Our Stories Are Worth Sharing” — and reflects the Library’s commitment to inclusion, community connection, and access to lifelong learning.
“We want this celebration to be joyful, inclusive, and rooted in what makes Iowa City so special — the people who bring our stories to life,” said Helmick. “It’s a moment to honor not just my own journey, but the role public libraries play in empowering communities.”
Come celebrate the stories that shape us, the libraries that empower us, and the leadership rooted in our community. No registration required. All are welcome!
