The Allen County Historical Society’s Fall Meeting will be on Saturday, October 25, at 2 p.m. and will be located at the Frederick Funston Meeting Hall (207 N. Jefferson Ave. Iola). The Historical Society Will be hosting a program by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
SUVCW is a national organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the soldiers and sailors who fought to preserve the Union during the Civil War. Today, the SUVCW carries on that legacy by honoring Civil War ancestors, promoting patriotism, and keeping alive the history of their service and sacrifice.
Locally, Camp 9 of Humboldt serves as the area’s active chapter. Under the leadership of Camp Commander Rocky Ansell, the camp works to educate the public, preserve historical records, and participate in commemorative events across the region. Ansell will be presenting the background of the SUVCW, sharing how the organization connects modern generations with the stories of their Civil War ancestors and the ongoing mission of Camp 9.
The Historical Society will provide snacks and refreshments for the event, and the program will be recorded and put on our Facebook page and YouTube page to view.
