Join us for the next open jam session at MacGregor's Bar, Inverness, on Sunday, 15th June, from 2pm–4pm for an afternoon of Gypsy Jazz tunes and good company.
Minor Blues (Blues en Mineur) is the new tune for June!
What to expect:
Everyone's welcome. Bring your instrument, your voice, or just come along to listen.
We'll pick tunes from our list. You can play the melody, take a solo, or provide accompaniment, whatever you're comfortable with.
This jam should focus on supportive accompaniment. When you're not leading or soloing, think about how best to back up the melody with rhythm chords, tasteful fills, or listening quietly. Think of it like a conversation: it works best when one voice shines at a time.
Listen closely to the other musicians and communicate clearly. Eye contact and attentive listening help create musical cues and improve the jam.
Try to keep solos concise and engaging: one or two choruses per musician for fast or short tunes, one chorus per musician for medium and faster tunes, and shared choruses now and again for slower ballads.
Respect your fellow musicians. Jams are about mutual enjoyment and growth. Encourage others, especially if they're new or less experienced.
Make sure your instrument is tuned before joining in. It makes a huge difference!
