Get Up and Tie Your Fingers” is the traditional wake up call for the herring lassies. The call reminded these women to wrap their fingers with rags to protect them from the sharp knives they used to gut the herring.
Central to the play is the tragedy of Black Friday. When, on the 14th October, 1881 a freak storm drove the Eyemouth fishing fleet onto the rocks.
