Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Below you will find i formation regarding several events taking place in Oxford County and London Area, including the 5th Annual March for Truth and Reconciliation in Ingersoll at 6pm.
This year, Truth and Reconciliation is taking on a new, deeper meaning in our communities. It's marked by a growing commitment to accountability and a stronger understanding of what Reconciliation truly means. It's not just a word, but a path of action and understanding.
Over the past five years, we've seen remarkable progress in Oxford County. We've moved from simply acknowledging the past to actively working together, building new relationships, and creating lasting symbols of change.
A heartfelt Chi Miigwech (thank you) to everyone who has dedicated their time and effort to ensure Truth and Reconciliation are priorities in our community. Powerful examples of this progress can be seen right here in our communities, thanks to incredible collaborations between Indigenous peoples and organizations.
These partnerships include:
🧡The Ingersoll BIA, for their collaboration on the creation of the Indigenous Awareness crosswalk and the Veterans' Memorial crosswalk. The Veterans' crosswalk is especially meaningful, as it honors our heroes in Oneida, Anishinaabemowin, English, and French, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Indigenous warriors and uniting our diverse community in a shared message of respect.
🧡CBYF Oxford, for their partnership on the "Building the Fire" Cross Cultural Youth Conference. Which brought together youth from Oxford, Oneida, Chippewa and Six Nations for a day of learning, community building, music and creation.
🧡The Oxford Health Team, for their work on the creation of the HART Hub. The HART Hub has been conscious of its role in Truth and Reconciliation, taking it upon themselves to consult with Indigenous peoples at every stage of development and work with Two Row Architect.
🧡Other organizations like the Woodstock Public Library, DART, Oxford Pride, WDDS, Woodstock BIA, UTRCA, Oxford Community Futures and many more.
This commitment to understanding is also reflected in this year's events. We are especially proud that the Town of Ingersoll is promoting and participating in the annual gathering—a vital step toward being true treaty partners and ensuring the labour of reconciliation does not fall solely on Indigenous peoples. We are also inspired by the courage and determination of Two Row Creeations, whose efforts are ensuring that our largest town is making huge strides and progress, such as the First Annual March for Truth and Reconciliation in Woodstock.
Truth and reconciliation are action words and cannot be carried forward with a bystander mentality. Let us all accept our responsibilities of Love, Wisdom, Courage, Humility, Honesty, and Truth and move forward together on this path.
Join us in Oxford County and beyond for these important events that honor our shared journey. Let's support the vital work of Indigenous-led organizations and cultural centers that are leading the way.
