Community Murph

The Murph workout is a dedication to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy. Lt. Murphy died in Afghanistan June 28, 2005. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, Medal of Honor, and a Purple Heart for his service. “Body Armor”, as it was previously named, was his favorite workout to do. The workout starts with a mile run, followed by 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats, and finishing with another mile run all while wearing a 20lb vest for guys and a 14lb vest for ladies. It takes grit, determination, and sacrifice. This workout is done every Memorial Day to honor ALL the service men and women we have lost while fighting for their country.

This year, we will be moving our rig to the Indianola square. All are welcome to join including kids! Even though it is a very tough workout, we will be modifying the workout for all fitness abilities and levels. We will start at West Hill Brewery and have heats going every 30-45 minutes.

Your ticket price will include a tshirt, post-workout snacks, as well as a beverage at West Hill Brewery (for those that are 21+). All proceeds will go to The Puppy Jake Foundation and Heal House of Iowa here in Indianola. If you'd prefer to pay with cash or check, please reach out to us to reserve your timeslot! We will take walk ups the day of, but can't guarantee a shirt or timeslot.

Puppy Jake Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to help wounded military veterans with the assistance of well-bred and professionally trained service dogs. Veterans’ injuries may be invisible such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or physical mobility impairments. Service dogs can provide support to veterans suffering from any of these issues and more. They assist veterans in performing tasks, and are proven to help the handler cope with anxieties or loneliness. It’s all about helping the veterans live a healthier, happier life on their terms. The Foundation also advocates for increased awareness and accessibility for those accompanied by a service dog in everyday situations.

The second is Heal House of Iowa here in Indianola. Heal House of Iowa is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with individuals in Warren County who are suffering with homelessness. They assist those individuals in finding them social supports, established services, and available financial resources that can help the individual or family go from homelessness to successfully housed. They have and continue to work with veterans as well locally to Warren County.
