About the event

The Palace in the Backyard
An annual mini music festival set in a pop-up venue along Indy's White River, featuring local artists and vendors.

About this Event

The Palace in the Backyard is an annual mini-festival set in a picturesque backyard along the White River in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Indianapolis. It was created to provide an intimate setting for music-lovers to experience local band The Palace, winners of MOKB’s 2020 Battle of the Bands, winners of a 2023 Regional Emmy, and performers at the All IN, WonderRoad, and Indy Pride festivals.

Now in its 5th year, The Palace in the Backyard has grown to include other local bands, art vendors, and small businesses. Run by artists, the event is designed to be a showcase of the incredible musical and artistic talent that Indianapolis and surrounding areas has to offer. This is an all-ages event and ALL are welcome. Local food and alcohol will be available for purchase. No outside food/drink allowed. Bring your own chairs/blankets.

Band Bios

THE PALACE

The Palace is uncontained soul from the lips of a rockstar on Broadway. Vocal runs and soaring guitar solos are the crown jewels of a modern blues band taken over by Queen reincarnate, including a front man whose presence transcends. The Palace’s loyal following routinely packs in the largest independent venues Indianapolis has to offer as their presence spreads in places like WonderRoad or All IN Festivals in 2022. You can listen to their debut album Rainbow Shades on Spotify (or whereever you get your music)

FEVERDREAM.

FEVERDREAM.’s music has percussive, driving rhythms that are accompanied with well-timed vocal melodies and intentionally placed lead patterns. The result is a fun indie rock sound with catchy leads and a meaningful story to tell. The lyrics and the stories behind them carry themes of relationship, growth, loss, healing, self-care, awareness, and change that listeners can identify with.

JOSHUA POWELL

Joshua Powell is the exhausted wizard at the helm of IN’s most haunted rock band. From his hardcore roots in the Floridian swamps and beyond the fever dream of his folk era, his literary lyrics dig for enlightenment in a surrealist muck. “Four LP’s and over 900 shows later, the midwestern road dog’s ever-evolving, transcendent style embraces hallucinatory metal and grimy psychedelia.” -Audiotree

MFFRED

With over two decades of experience as a songwriter and performer, Fred has developed a unique sound that fuses groove-heavy rhythms, soulful melodies, and experimental textures. Rooted in the independent music scenes of the Midwest, Fred’s performances are both intimate and electrifying, whether delivering raw, heartfelt solo sets or leading high-energy collaborations with other artists.

FORGOTTEN TRIBE

Forgotten Tribe is a band representing diversity and unity in the best way possible: through musical arts. Starting back in 2012, brothers Khiry Jurrell (Lead Singer, Guitarist, Trumpeter) and General Spazz (Producer/Bassist) began making music in their bedroom using an HP laptop and a janky black radio to produce and record their songs. The two brothers had a vision to create diverse sounds in their music and be as original as possible—producing and composing their art from scratch. When 2020 came along, they went on creating music in a live band movement accompanied by their new talented friends Ocho (12-String Guitarist), Omar (Melodica/Keys), Luke (Guitarist), and Ray (Drums). They all strive to bring people of all backgrounds together with their diverse music based in Reggae, Cumbia, Hip-Hop/Soul, and other Latin fusion additions. It’s been about four years now together and the music is growing, with goals set high to be great musicians wherever they are playing for the people. Music is the key in their approach to expressing themselves and their identities. More Music!

THE MOONTOWN PICKLE STOMPERS

he Moontown Pickle Stompers are a high-energy jazz and blues ensemble dedicated to reviving and celebrating the rich musical traditions of rural Indiana and the broader Midwest. Our sound and style come from an era when jazz was norm-breaking and rebellious. We play it that way. Many recognize our music from their grandparents’ generation, even if they’ve never heard it performed live. Our mix of pre-1940s music is unparalleled, evoking nostalgia while remaining fresh and exciting.

NOTE FROM THE ORGANIZER:

I first caught wind of The Palace in 2019 or 2020. Seeing them perform is always a very special and intimate experience. I wanted to match that feeling to a place.. a place that felt more intimate than a bar or music venue. So in 2021--we had the 1st Palace in the Backyard Event.

I have seen The Palace perform so many times now and they NEVER disappoint. The energy they bring is soulful, raw, and free, so seeing these guys live is always a real treat. If you don't know The Palace and you haven't seen them live yet, here's your chance! If you have seen The Palace, we'll see ya there!
