Part of CIBA/Bike Indianapolis' Neighborhood Rides initiative, this is a slow-roll ride through the winding streets of Irvington. The 2025 rides leave at 10:00 a.m. on the following Saturdays: April 12th, May 17th, June 14th, July 12th, August 9th, September 13th, and October 18th. Start and end at the Irvington Historical Society (Bona Thompson Memorial Center), 5350 University Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
**These rides work like "meet-ups". They are designed to not need a leader. Although this is a group activity, each individual rider/family is responsible for making sure they and their dependents follow the rules of the road, for making sure it's safe to cross at intersections (don't assume the way is clear for you just because the person in front of you starts to cross the street), and for finding their way along the route. Basically, ride like you are on a bike ride by yourself or with your kids, but others will be riding the same route at the same time.
The map of this year’s route is in the comments for this event, and is also pinned on the Irvington Neighborhood Bike Rides Facebook page.
A couple of things to keep in mind: This 7 mile ride should take about an hour if you're riding an average pace of 8 mph. Indianapolis is a pretty flat city, but even small hills can feel big on a bike. This route has several "small" hills. It's a good idea to do a quick check of your bike before each ride, to make sure it's in good working order (check tire pressure, check your chain, make sure your brakes are working, and make sure your wheels are securely attached). It's also a good idea to bring a spare inner tube and the basic tools you'll need in case of a flat tire.
