4 STELLAR BANDS PLAY at AG FAIR AUGUST 9, 1-5:00
Nothing could be finer than a Saturday afternoon of FREE old-time and bluegrass music in the cool shade of Elk Creek during the #graysoncountyagfair. Beat the heat of the #galaxfiddlersconvention while enjoying the music of some of the same great performers just up Highway 21.
1:00 GARRET WYATT & BAND – Local fiddler and banjoist Garret Wyatt grew up in Grayson County and now operates Wyatt’s Small Engine Repair shop in Independence. He’s won many a ribbon at fiddlers’ conventions, including most recently at Elk Creek and Galax in old-time banjo. A one-time student of Eddie Bond from Fries, Garret draws praise from seasoned players for his hard-driving Grayson style. He currently plays in two popular local bands – The Hooligans and The New Spring Valley Boys.
2:00 THE BISCUIT EATERS are a popular bluegrass family band that hails from way down in Surry County, North Carolina. They have been wowing crowds for several years now, while winning fiddlers’ convention ribbons all around. Always a fan favorite, the Wilkerson family band includes Sam, 15; Jo, 12; Maggie Jane, 10; Silas, 8; Molly, 6; and Mom and Dad “who are both too old to mention.” Truly an inspirational bunch!

3:00 DUCK RYAN & CODY BAUER are a powerhouse old-time and roots music duo from East Tennessee, blending high-energy fiddle and banjo with heartfelt songwriting and rich Appalachian tradition. They draw from deep regional roots and years of performing across the Southeast. Cody’s award-winning fiddle playing—recognized at contests like Galax Fiddlers Convention, Freshgrass and more —pairs seamlessly with Duck’s rhythmic clawhammer banjo and guitar and magnetic stage presence.

4:00 PEACH BOTTOM BENDERS WITH MATT KIRWAN -- Matt is a lifelong Virginian and frequent old-time fiddle and band ribbon winner at Galax, Sparta, Elk Creek and more. He melds his formidable talents with a band of seasoned players. A former member of the Loose Gap Loafers and Orchard Grass, Matt is a much sought-after performer and jam leader. When he’s not fiddling, Matt puts his Duke PhD to good use at the William & Mary Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS).
