Park your vehicles at Exit 63 I-75 North Entrance. There’s a rest area there but the overnight parking is located east of the rest area. This is mi. 30.2 of the Florida Trail.
You can arrive Friday or Saturday. Carpenter Camp is located at Florida Trail (FT) mi. 32.6. So, about 2.4 miles from entry. Depending on your pace, this will take between 1-2 hours.
For those that arrive Friday, meet at Carpenter Camp anytime to set up camp. We’ll gather firewood and have a Tribe time!
IF YOU WANT TO COME FRIDAY but aren’t comfortable hiking the 2 miles alone, let me know and we’ll try to have ‘groupings’., if there are enough people. Depending on work, I plan to arrive no later than 3 to ensure I get there and set up before dark. If you communicate, I can wait on anyone until 3 pm.
For those arriving Saturday, please arrive no later than 9 am at Carpenter camp or meet us at Panther Camp.
Saturday: we’ll pack up and set out for the Red trail located at FT mi. 33. We’ll walk the 1.5 miles of the red trail to the nobles grade trail where it’s about .8 miles North to the yellow trail. We’ll take the 2 miles yellow trail back to the FT trail, coming out at FL mi. 33.8. We’ll then continue to Panther Camp located at FT mi. 35.2.
Sunday: We’ll continue North along the FT until we reach Nobles Grade Trail at FT mi. 39.2. Then walk Nobles Grade Trail back OR if we’d like a shorter route, take the FT back the way we came.
This is a beginner’s trip. It’s going to be relaxed and we’ll take many breaks. If you’re hardcore and get annoyed at this, this is not the trip for you.
There are many places to gather water for filtering or boiling, if you don’t want to carry all your water.
Every person is responsible for their own safety. I’m just here as a friend, not a guide.
It may rain, so be prepared.
There are trees for hammock camping. The campgrounds are huge. There’s plenty of room for everyone BUT usable trees may be limited. So, a tent may be preferred.
