Counted embroidery is all about rhythm, balance and precision – every stitch is worked by counting the threads of your fabric, creating beautiful patterns that feel both calming and satisfying to make.
In this workshop, you’ll create a sampler on evenweave fabric, learning a variety of stitches as you go: back stitch, cross stitch, herringbone, satin stitch, four- and three-sided stitches, double herringbone, cushion stitch and woven cross stitch. To finish, you’ll add a scattering of petite beads for a touch of sparkle.
The sampler is a satisfying project in itself – worthy of framing – but the stitches you’ll learn are incredibly versatile. Once you’ve got them under your belt, you can go on to make small handmade treasures like a needle case, scissor fob or pincushion – or develop your own designs or pick up counted embroidery kits.
Whether you’re new to embroidery or already enjoy stitching and want to expand your skills, this is a chance to slow down, enjoy some creative time, and leave with something beautiful to show for it.
