Cuban Dance Intensive
Folkloric Series with Michel Concepción Mullings!
Join us for this inspiring new series which will delve into the roots of Cuban Casino (Salsa) and the dances which give the ‘sabor’ or flavour we love so much. These dances which pre date Casino are the vital link to creating the styling and cadence we love so much when watching Cuban dancers.
Each four week block will delve deeply into the technique, musicality and cultural knowledge needed to truly dance with freedom and intention.
The first focus will be Afro Cuban Dance. Specifically the dance of the Orisha deity ‘Elegua’. Elegua embodies the trickster Orisha of crossroads, featuring grounded, bouncy movements, specific arm gestures like cutting grass (scythe-like), torso isolations (chest forward/back), and a downward pulse called "muo," all connecting feet to torso for expressive, earthy rhythms that open paths and new beginnings.

About Michel: Hailing from Cuba, Michel Concepción-Mullings is a distinguished Cuban soloist and acclaimed performer celebrated for his mastery of traditional Afro-Cuban dance. A former principal artist with the iconic Afro-Cuban music and dance ensemble, Ban Rra Rra, Michel brings deep cultural authenticity and dynamic artistry to every performance.
