Stripe the courts

July 1st was a Hutchinson City council meeting, I made a request to the council about adding pickleball lines to the courts on Severance street. There was some on the council who seemed receptive to the idea because I volunteered that we as a group would provide the labor to apply the lines if the city supplied the material. I tried to make the point that the 2 courts HCC constructed were fine but very crowded at times and it would take money which is in short supply to finish the courts at Rice Park. If we are to have any chance having them to agree to my suggestion, we will need a presence at the next meeting on July 15th. The Parks Department will try their best stopping lines being added to the courts, they will argue the school tennis program will be against it and they don't want to make waves with them. The city actually owns 66% of the courts, there is an agreement with the school about maintenance of the courts but they haven't held up their end of the agreement.
Please, if you are capable of attending the next meeting on the 15th, be there. It's starts at 5:30 at City Hall, 100 block of East B street. I believe if we can have a large turn out, we will succeed in getting the courts.
