January Series: The Gospel of the Kingdom

1/4 - Our God Reigns: Isaiah 40 with allusions to Revelation 19 and Psalm 2 - God is large and in charge. He is the King of the universe; the King of Israel the King of Kings. Who has resisted His will and who has been His counselor? The answer: nobody. To defy Him is foolishly futile. We might as well cooperate, get in line, and reap the benefits.

1/11 - John & Jesus: Matthew 3 & 4 and Mark 1… addressing what exactly John and Jesus meant by their message, “The Kingdom of heaven (and the kingdom of God) is at hand.”

1/18 - Already & Not Yet: Matthew 11… first, the kingdom was genuinely offered to Israel, and they turned it down. It will be offered to them again in the future and they will receive it. Meanwhile, spiritually the kingdom is already here; it is in you. Literally (or physically) though, it is also yet future. He who shall come will come and will not tarry (Hebrews 10:37).

1/25 - The Everlasting Gospel: Revelation 14… as this is the only place the gospel is called the “everlasting gospel” - in what sense is it everlasting? We will hopefully talk about the substance and nature of the gospel itself as well as discuss it’s transcendent and enduring qualities.
