In the not-too-distant future, society is teetering upon the brink of collapse, a highway patrolman named Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), part of the dwindling Main Force Patrol, is forced to confront a violent motorcycle gang led by the sadistic Toecutter after they brutally murder his wife and son, driving him to seek revenge across the barren wastelands, becoming a vengeful "Mad Max" as he fights back against the growing anarchy on the roads.
