Workshop - "Let's mix it up a little"

Here we go again for another weekend of laughter, learning, yummy food, chilled music and of course, lots of delicious dancing.

The weekend consists of daytime classes on Saturday and Sunday and a freestyle on Saturday evening.

Over the course of the weekend we will take several connected dance techniques and combine them to help bring variety and confidence to your dance. The ingredients will include footwork, timing, deceleration, playing with rotation, weight-transfer and of course - musicality. We will combine these elements into a selection of movements that you can take straight onto the social dance floor. The aim of our Own Your Dance group is simply to help enhance your dancing, to grow the community of dancers who dance smoothly, with connection and confidence... and to broaden some smiles along the way.

The weekend workshop consists of 5 sessions split over two days, but we try not to over-loaded you with too much technical content over the weekend as we ensure there is plenty of guided practice time, breaks and freestyle opportunities.

We have intentionally structured the sessions to allow us to tailor the technical details as required depending on each dancer’s abilities. We achieve this through teaching the core elements of each session to everyone, and then during the guided practice sessions we give additional detail and optional enhancements that are more challenging to those dancers who request it, while others can choose to just focus on practicing the core techniques taught in the sessions.

We provide a healthy lunch on both Saturday and Sunday to keep your energy levels up, and a selection of hot drinks and biscuits which will be available during the breaks, but please feel free to bring any additional food and drink to supplement the above. Ellie and I are keen to protect the environment and so if you can avoid bringing food that is covered in plastics we would really appreciate that.

We like to make these events warm, welcoming, friendly, and fun, as this is important when creating an environment where we hope dancers will push themselves a little outside of their comfort zone, and this is much easier to do when you feel you are among friends. We therefore encourage everyone in the group to be supportive and accepting – and of course we fully expect lots of smiling and laughter!
