Camp Hope at HCLC - Week One

Every summer, the Holy Comforter Lutheran Church community comes alive with the vibrant and transformative event known as Camp Hope. This three-week Vacation Bible School is more than just a summer camp; it’s a ministry that embodies the core values of youth leadership, congregational commitment, and biblical literacy.



At the heart of Camp Hope is its unique approach to leadership. The camp is youth-led and adult-mentored, providing growth opportunities for both counselors and campers. This year, we will recruit 10 high school and college-aged counselors and 6 to 10 middle school counselors-in-training. Led by this year's Director, Evan Janacek, they will participate in two training sessions, learning to lead Bible stories, manage classrooms, and foster a safe, fun community. Biblical literacy is a cornerstone of Camp Hope.



During the three weeks, campers will learn 15 different Bible stories through interactive, hands-on experiences. This approach ensures that every child connects with the Bible in a meaningful way. Some of our 5th-grade campers, who began in kindergarten, will have covered close to 75 Bible stories by the time they age out of the program! Camp Hope is deeply rooted in our congregation. The bonds formed here last a lifetime, with campers and counselors gaining leadership skills that benefit the entire church community.
