JOHN DOLAN, JACK DOLAN, AND MICHELE O'HANA - Opening Reception "HOME" The Dolan-O'Hana Family

We are pleased to announce the next exhibition entitled "HOME" by John Dolan, Jack Dolan + Michele O’Hana. The opening reception will be held on September 13, 2025, from 5 pm to 7 pm at The Robin Rice Gallery, 234 Warren St, Hudson, NY 12534

Back in the spring of 2025, Robin Rice visited the studio of John Dolan and Michele O’Hana, and she experienced a lightbulb moment. She imagined a family collaboration. The result is HOME, a deeply personal, immersive exhibition that explores the meaning of home through the diverse but interconnected practices of John Dolan, fine art photography, Michele O’Hana, interior designer, textiles, ceramics, and weaving, and Jack Dolan, blacksmith, hand-forged knives. The show brings together three artists—two parents and a son—in a celebration of craft, memory, and place.

In the exhibition HOME, the gallery space is transformed into an evocative, intimate environment inspired by the family’s barn studio in Chatham, NY. One room features a re-creation of the barn interior, designed by Michele, with hand-stained wooden boards covering the walls to create a warm, inviting space. Framed Fine art photographs rest on picture rails above a knitted woolen quilt and softly glowing porcelain light fixtures. Knives with hand-forged steel blades and Hudson Valley wood handles are displayed like heirlooms passed down through generations next to porcelain sculptures created by Michele. O’Hana’s installation contributions include knitted textiles, basketry, and porcelain, all resonating with warmth and tactility. This is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation into a way of life—slower, rooted, intentional.

The exhibition asks: What defines a home? Is it a structure, a memory, a handmade object, or the hands that make it? For the Dolan-O’Hana family, home is all of those things—a place shaped over time through movement and return, creation and collaboration. This show blurs the lines between domestic space and gallery, between art object and daily ritual.

Through fine art photography, textiles, ceramics, and metalwork, HOME is a multi-sensory portrait of a family rooted in craft and place. At its heart is a shared creative language—one that speaks through light, form, texture, and the enduring beauty of handmade things.

Each artist brings their own story, medium, and sensibility to the exhibition.
