Sonar Sessions is a monthly Sunday evening event, showcasing artists in the genres of world, jazz, soul, acoustic & folk. Each Sonar Session will present a carefully curated lineup of live acts showcasing established artists alongside emerging local talent.
'Korason'
Wales-based duo Korason (Josh Doughty - Kora and Tim Short - Guitar) were introduced to each other by world-famous Ngoni player Bassekou Kouyaté at the festival du Niger in Segou, Mali, back in 2007.
Josh is recognised as one of the greatest non-African kora players, mentored from a young age by Malian kora maestro Toumani Diabaté. Multi-instrumentalist Tim has toured and recorded for over 30 years, playing with The Waterboys, Afro Cluster, Matuki and Joe Driscoll and Seckou.
Through their music, they pay their respects to the great Mandinka traditions of West Africa alongside beautiful new compositions of their own and have appeared at a number of UK festivals including WOMAD, Shambala, Boomtown, Kaya and Llangollen Fringe.
'Harry Orme'
Marrying the immersive story-songs of Anais Mitchell and Andy Shauf with the fluid dexterity of guitar players such as Scott Matthews and The Tallest Man On Earth, Leeds-based singer/songwriter Harry Orme has crafted a catalogue of songs that are as lyrically moving as they are mesmerising in their intricacy. These songs have kept him in good company – he's opened for world-renowned songwriters across the indie-folk spectrum, including Big Thief, Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), Scott Matthews, Tiny Ruins and Ciaran Lavery.
