LAMMAS DRUM & JOURNEY CIRCLE

Our journey circles will be held close to each of the 8 Seasonal Celtic Festivals, our aim is to connect with the energy of the season and therefore with nature, as the wheel of the year turns nature moves with the flow of this cyclic energy in a dance of constant change, this change is present within each of us although modern life can draw us away from the Earth and the changing seasons, we can be overtaken by technology and an endless drive to consume rather than create.
It is now high summer and the union of Sun and Earth, of God and Goddess, has produced the First Harvest. Lammas is the celebration of this first, Grain Harvest, a time for gathering in and giving thanks for abundance.
The word 'Lammas' is derived from 'loaf mass' and is indicative of how central and honoured is the first grain and the first loaf of the harvesting cycle.
It is also the great festival of Lugh, or Lug, the great Celtic Sun King and God of Light. August is His sacred month when He initiated great festivities in honour of His mother, Tailtiu. Feasting, market fairs, games and bonfire celebrations were the order of the day. Circle dancing, reflecting the movement of the sun in sympathetic magic, was popular, as were all community gatherings. August was considered an auspicious month for handfastings and weddings.
But underlying this is the knowledge that the bounty and energy of Lugh, of the Sun, is now beginning to wane. It is a time of change and shift. Active growth is slowing down and the darker days of winter and reflection are beckoning...
We invite you to join us in sacred space at this time of transformation to :
Journey, Meditate, Share, Drum and Chant.
Afterwards you are invited to join us around the fire on the Fairy Fields (weather permitting), for fireside story telling, songs, dance, drumming and fire ceremony. Please bring warm clothing and sturdy footwear.
Cost £20 per person - Please contact us to reserve your place as numbers are strictly limited.
For those that have drums or rattles please bring them with you, spares will be available for those without.
