About the event

HIT THE ROAD, MATT!
Have fun while learning about the political insiders removing Montrose's safety infrastructure, sidewalks, and bike lanes.

About this Event

We will have Montrose trivia (with prizes!), a short satirical play, and fun while we help you learn more about what’s happening to our local streets—West Alabama, Waugh, and Montrose Boulevard. Both Montrose Blvd & West Alabama redesign projects were paused and redesigned by Mayor Whitmire to remove safety infrastructure. Waugh’s bike lane is currently being considered for removal. Learn how you can help!

Why are we calling for Matt Brollier’s resignation?

A disturbing pattern of communication between active lobbyist Sue Lovell and Montrose TIRZ Chair Matthew Brollier was revealed by a Texas Public Information Act request. In these messages, Brollier and Lovell routinely disparage residents, community advocates, and fellow board members who support improvements to Montrose Boulevard.

Montrose deserves a board chair who respects the people they serve, who values the perspectives of their colleagues, and who conducts themself with professionalism. We want a neighborhood which prioritizes safety, accessibility, and modes of transport outside of just driving. Chair Brollier has shown, time and again, that he is unwilling or unable to meet that standard. He must resign!

What’s the Montrose Walk Audit?

Montrose Blvd’s redesign was previously slated to include many safety benefits, including a 10 ft sidewalk (shared use path) and a pedestrian bridge crossing Allen Pkwy to connect Buffalo Bayou to Montrose Blvd. Unfortunately, these benefits went away after the Mayor demanded so. To help people feel the project’s importance, we led 140 neighbors to physically survey the road environment (think sidewalk conditions, bus shelters, potholes, etc.). Why does this matter? What happened to Montrose Blvd is happening now to West Alabama Street, so we need to speak up now while we still can.
