About the event

EDH Sunday Dance: Engaging From Root to Crown with Lonny H.
EDH Sunday Dance: Engaging From Root to Crown with Lonny H.

Details: Engaging From Root to Crown is a journey in rhythm—

through the body’s energetic centers,
from ground to sky.
Earthy beats awaken feet and hips,
as creativity and pleasure melt into power
and play ignites.
Then comes the clearing—
loosening, opening,
wider and wider, higher and higher,
Your body listens
and the music opens what’s ready to connect,
and lifts what’s ready to rise.
From root to crown,
from the inside out—
one breath,
one beat at a time.

About Ecstatic Dance. For millennia humans have danced as a means of transcending routine consciousness, to feel more connected to themselves, other humans, and to the natural world. In contemporary times, ecstatic dance has evolved and drawn inspiration from Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms and other conscious dance forms into a free-form, non-judgmental style of movement that follows a crafted musical journey meant to take us through various states of being. This liberating practice invites participants to move through the music organically, taking direction not from our heads but from how it feels to move from inside of our bodies.

Guidelines for the Dance: These guidelines will also be posted at the entrance and we’ll go over them during opening circle.

We dance with clear heads, without alcohol or drugs, to reach a natural state of ecstasy.
We dance without words to be fully embodied.
We dance without phones or any other electronic devices to be fully present, to enable complete expression (to dance like no one is watching you), and to honor the sacredness of the dance.
We dance with the most authentic expression of ourselves to feel fully alive and to access to full spectrum of our physical and emotional selves.
We dance without accessories like watches and jewelry to avoid injuring others.
We dance barefoot (or with socks) to be grounded, bringing us more fully into the present moment of who we actually are.
And, last and critically important, we dance with [CARE]:

Consent: to ensure in advance that others welcome any physical contact with you;
Awareness and Respect: to honor everyone’s autonomy and right of self-expression; and
Empathy: to move without judgment for ourselves or others, with peace and love for everyone in our hearts.

There will be a donation station at the door. Donate any amount you can but don’t hesitate to come if donating now isn’t easy for you. The Interchange is a d-i-y space, and we usually have iced water available to drink. Feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks if you want anything.

Timing:

10:00 am – The doors open for spontaneous volunteers who are drawn to help clean and purity the space.
10:30 am – Warm up music. This is when we'll begin practicing a non-verbal space in the main room.
11:00 am – Opening Circle, followed by the main dance. The dance itself is about 80 minutes.
