About the event

Ancient Arteries: Hearts of the Pharaohs
UTHealth Houston and the Houston Museum of Natural Science are thrilled to partner and present an exclusive evening exploring the intersection of ancient history and modern medicine.

Join us for a lecture as Dr. Jagat Narula, a renowned expert from UTHealth Houston, shares his groundbreaking research on the cardiovascular health of Ancient Egyptian mummies. Discover what these time-traveling patients in the HMNS ‘waiting room’ can teach us about preventing and treating heart disease today!

Prepare for a night of science, medicine, and a whole lot of heart--an evening worth unwrapping.

Jagat Narula, MD, PhD, a world-renowned physician-scientist and leader in cardiovascular medicine, holds the K. Lance Gould Distinguished University Chair in Coronary Pathophysiology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Narula has traveled the world studying signs of heart disease in mummies as part of the Horus Group--named for the Egyptian god of the sky and the hunt--a multidisciplinary research group that includes cardiologists, radiologists, pathologists, geneticists, basic scientists, anthropologists, and archaeologists. His work has brought new insights into the causes of heart disease and how humans can prevent and mitigate the condition.

His vast expertise encompasses cardiology and cardiovascular imaging programs, global health initiatives, and translational research that advances clinical care and emphasizes heart disease prevention for patients. He is executive vice president and chief academic officer at UTHealth Houston and has served as editor-in-chief or executive editor of several preeminent scientific journals.

Eligible for CPE credit.

Distinguished Lectures are supported by Apache Corporation.
