Community Paint Day: Cool & Colorful Corridors @ Lower Richland

Grab a brush and join us for a day of color, creativity, and community pride!
The South Carolina Energy Justice Coalition (SCEJC) and Lower Richland High School invite you to our first Community Paint Day — part of the Cool & Colorful Corridors mural project celebrating LRHS’s 100th anniversary and highlighting the power of community and energy justice.

• Date: Saturday, October 11, 2025
• Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Location: Lower Richland High School, Columbia, SC
• Cost: Free (registration required)

Join neighbors, students, and volunteers as we work alongside local artist Mark Dreher to bring the mural to life! Tasks include:

• Prepping and taping mural areas
• Painting sections of the mural and walkway
• Spray-painting tables/furniture
• Assisting with materials and supplies
• Helping with post-project cleanup

No experience is needed — all skill levels are welcome!

This event is part of the Cool & Colorful Corridors initiative, blending art, shade, and sustainability to create cooler, more welcoming community spaces. Together, we’re painting a story of energy justice, resilience, and community pride for generations of students to come.

• Clothes you don’t mind getting paint on
• Closed-toe shoes (required)
• Hat, sunscreen, and refillable water bottle
• Positive energy and community spirit!

All painting supplies, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided.

Choose a volunteer role that suits your interest:

🎨 Painter: Fill in color blocks and details

🧰 Prep Crew: Tape, organize, and support setup

🧯 Spray Team: Assist with furniture and accent painting

🚶 Runner: Support the artist and team with materials

🧹 Cleanup Crew: Tidy and close out the day together

• 9:00 AM – Check-in & safety briefing (light breakfast)
• 9:30 AM – Painting begins
• 12:00 PM – Lunch/snack break & photo op
• 1:00 PM – Afternoon paint session
• 2:30 PM – Group photo & cleanup
• 3:00 PM – Wrap-up

This is an outdoor event. In case of rain or extreme weather, registered participants will be notified by 8:00 AM with reschedule information.
