About the event

Native Warm Season Grasses for Forage and Wildlife
Do you ever wonder what grasses we had before the introduction of Bermudagrass, Johnsongrass, Bahiagrass and Tall Fescue?

Do you want to improve your grazing with the introduction of more drought tolerant grasses that require less fertilizer but still have high yields and nutrient value?

Do you want to create high quality wildlife habitat and attract more wildlife, including quail?

This program is for livestock producers, landowners and those interested in improving wildlife habitat on their property.

Thursday, August 14, 2025, Hempstead Hall on the campus of U of A Hope – Texarkana, Hope, AR

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
No Charge - Meal Provided

Keynote Speaker
Dr. Jonathan Kubesch, Extension Forage Specialist, Cooperative Extension Service

Dr. Kubesch is the state forage extension specialist. He has studied at Ohio State, University of Tennessee—Knoxville, and Virginia Tech in the areas of forage agronomy and grazing systems. Dr. Kubesch has worked to incorporate native forage species into existing farms in order to adapt to unpredictable weather, increasing input costs, and changing consumer preferences. Dr. Kubesch was initially educated at his grandparents’ farm around registered Angus seedstock as well as commercial alfalfa and orchardgrass hay production in Peru, Indiana. Jonathan and Sarah Grace have two children and their country home is in East End, south of Little Rock, where the family is converting a three-acre tract into a pine savanna.
