Stride with Pride: Hike to Staircase Rapids

Come Join the Queer Mountaineers for a gorgeous hike to Staircase Rapids. This relatively easy approximately 5 mile hike, with only 600 ft. of elevation gain, follows the North Fork of the Skokomish River up the valley to a suspension bridge (and prime photography spot), crosses the river and returns via the valley on the opposite river. As this trail forms a loop you are guaranteed maximum enjoyment of the towering temperate rain forest trees that fill the valley and add to the distinct beauty of Olympic National Park.

Please note that we will be parking where N Lake Cushman Road enters Olympic National Park, and hiking the rest of the way up the road (this distance is accounted for in this hike description) to the original Staircase Rapids trail head, as the road inside the park is closed due to a washout (but is still easily walked on foot). Parking should not require a pass as it's outside the park.

Meeting Location: Bear Gultch Picnic Site (Located directly next to the closed park entrance gate)

Gear Needed: Day pack with 10 essentials, food, water, extra layers, sunscreen. Prepare for cold, rainy, and/or windy weather - check forecast before you hike. Remember that your saftey is your responisbility- know your limits and always check conditions before you headout.
