Penfolds Recorking Clinic Hong Kong

Penfolds Recorking Clinic returns to Hong Kong this August, offering the ultimate aftercare service for your prized Penfolds bottles.

This complimentary experience is unique in the world of wine, inviting collectors a rare opportunity to meet with our winemakers and have their eligible Penfolds red wines opened, assessed, certified and recorked as required. Since the first clinic in 1991, our winemakers have assessed over 200,000 bottles across four continents.

Inspired by Max Schubert, the creator of Grange, who was known to recork old vintages of Grange for his friends, this complimentary service showcases our ongoing commitment to quality and care.

A clinic appointment provides an opportunity to meet the Penfolds Winemaking team, gain expert advice on cellaring and peak drinking windows, and understand the unique story behind your prized bottle. For every eligible bottle recorked, the bottle will be labelled with a certificate signed by our Penfolds Winemaker.

While waiting for your bottles to be assessed, guests can enjoy a complimentary welcome drink in the waiting area. A curated selection of Penfolds best wines will also be available to purchase. A range of items will be available for purchase, including limited-edition keepsakes and merchandise with customisation options.

The service is available for all Penfolds red wines with a cork closure, aged fifteen years or older.

To qualify for an appointment at our clinics, your red wine must be fifteen years or older and should not have been recorked previously. Should you have purchased your wine through the secondary wine market and it has been recorked before, you will find a certification label on the back of the bottle signed by a winemaker. Ideally, your wine has been well cellared and has good ullage.

• RED ZONE - wine is no longer certifiable and will not be recorked

Peter Gago, our Chief Winemaker, stands at the helm of an exceptional team, crafting some of the world’s most acclaimed wines, including our flagship Grange. Peter began his journey at Penfolds in 1989 as a Sparkling Winemaker, and in 2002, he became the fourth custodian of the Chief Winemaker role. His stewardship of Penfolds marries an innovative vision with an unwavering dedication to tradition, ensuring the continued evolution of our winemaking legacy. His efforts continue to forge new connections and collaborations, enriching the ever-evolving narrative of Penfolds.

Shavaughn grew up on a vineyard in Victoria’s Merbein, inspired early on by her grandfather’s legacy. After completing her Oenology degree at the University of Adelaide, she followed his path into winemaking. Shavaughn joined Penfolds in 2017, contributing her expertise across our red wine portfolio. Her leadership extends to the Barossa Wine Show Committee, where she serves as co-Chairman, and her achievements include being named 2016 Australian Winemaker of the Year and induction as a Baron of Barossa in 2017.
