INDIA BY THE BAY AT TAI KWUN

An electrifying evening of music and dance, free and open to the public, at Tai Kwun’s iconic Laundry Steps, this will be an outstanding showcase of gifted global artists to celebrate 10 years of India by the Bay. Celebrating a decade of collaborative partnerships that India by the Bay continues to embody, the evening will be a magnificent, cross-cultural coalescence, set in three acts, described in detail below.

SET 1: PERCUSSION UNLEASHED: A cross-cultural percussion ensemble with Arup Guha on the tabla, Aravindan Jegannathan on the mridangam, Jorge Ramiro on the pakhawaj and Alfonso Rosales playing the conga.

SET 2: A MUSICAL MEDLEY: Global artists unite in a jazz performance that transcends genre and geography, with Sylvain Gagnon on the double bass and bass guitar, Arup Guha on the tabla, Costel Pascu on the keys and Paulo Levi on the saxophone. Meanwhile, Athena Kwong and Arup Guha collaborate on the yangqin and tabla, blending Indian and Chinese traditions in a testament to the connective power of music.

SET 3: MAGIC IN MOVEMENT: A vibrant performance by the Bhangra Queens, led by the dynamic Nazm Kaur, redefining Punjab’s joyous folk dance with power, grace and energy.

India by the Bay, Hong Kong’s only annual week-long celebration of India’s artistic, literary and cultural heritage, completes ten glorious years in 2025, reaffirming its position as a cultural bridge between two distinctive national identities – India and Hong Kong. For the past dramatic decade, India by the Bay has forged enduring ties through the collaborative power unique to the arts. It has built heart-warming connections through strands that evoke the deepest of emotion - dialogue, performance, food, well-being, and family. Through a dynamic array of conversations, performances that blend artistic traditions, exceptional cuisines, textile and craft, the festival highlights how intersecting traditions can deepen our understanding of one another.

Each year, the festival brings the soul of India and its unique diversity to the city’s shores, with a carefully curated programme, featuring music, dance, theatre, cinema, literature, craft, cuisine, interactive workshops and more, drawing in both diaspora and the people of Hong Kong, and fostering collaborations. The festival is co-presented by Teamwork Arts and the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Its tenth milestone year promises a galaxy of stalwarts and a power-packed, dazzling chronicle of events, scheduled to be held from November 6 -12, 2025.
