One of GEORGE STRAIT'S most recent songs to take the internet by storm, "To The Moon" has been watched millions of times! The man who wrote that beautiful song is coming to The Fiddle and Bow! Marty Brown has been entertaining fans for decades. He is real country music and we can't wait to see him. He is a true entertainer and you will leave this show with a smile.
When he was inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2022, this is what they wrote about him...
Marty Brown has always embraced his old-school connection to deep-rooted traditional country music. Brown’s signature voice is pure country and is regularly compared to country music icons Hank Williams, Sr. and Jimmie Rodgers. Marty’s heartbreak arrangements and soul-touching delivery have built a broad, faithful fan following over his four decades in the music industry.
Marty was born in the small town of Maceo, in northeast Daviess County near Owensboro, Kentucky, on July 25, 1965. His parents, Vincent and Barbara Brown, introduced Marty to traditional country music and filled their home with early Elvis Presley rockabilly tunes. Marty grew up imitating his favorite country stars, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and listened faithfully to the pop-rock duo of the Everly Brothers.
Marty learned how to play his father’s guitar at the age of nine. He started composing his own lyrics in his early teens, and by the time he graduated high school, Marty had stockpiled a considerable number of original songs.
Late in his teen years, Marty bagged groceries and worked part-time as a mechanic and a plumber’s assistant to support himself, his wife, and two young children. Yet, he never gave up on pursuing his dream. Marty made numerous trips to Nashville, knocking on doors, sleeping in alleyways, seeking out agents, and searching for venues to allow him to play his own country compositions. In 1991, the CBS news magazine show 48 Hours recorded a feature on struggling country music artists and highlighted Marty. The exposure led to Marty’s first record deal with MCA.
In 1991, Marty released his debut album, “High and Dry.” The album drew much praise for its raw energy and classical country depth. The title track, “High and Dry,” and “Every Now and Then” showcased his authentic voice. Marty promoted his first album with numerous small-stage appearances. He played in store aisles, Wal-Mart’s, and Mom and Pop country outlets all over the Southeastern United States. His traditional country sound and one-on-one connection with his fans helped Marty build a loyal, devoted fan base. “High and Dry” sold over 100,000 copies.
With his follow-up album, “Wild Kentucky Skies,” Marty attempted to reach a wider audience. Break-up songs like “It Must be Rain” and the love song, “God Knows,” toned down his honky-tonk style yet featured Marty’s ability to write and perfect his aching folk-ballad country appeal.
Brown released his third album under the MCA label in 1994. ‘Cryin’, Lovin’, Leavin’ again garnered critical acclaim. Although sales did not always follow the quality of his work, Brown always remained true to his country roots and his faithful following of traditional country music lovers.
Marty’s 4th studio album, “Here’s to the Honky Tonks,” was released in 1996 on the HighTone Record Label.
Marty enjoyed a successful songwriting career as well. He co-wrote “I’m From the Country” and “Perfect Strangers” with country singer-songwriter Tracy Byrd; and “When I Stop Loving You” and “It Ain’t Me If It Ain’t You” with Brooks & Dunn.
After taking some time off from the country music business in the mid-2000s, Marty made an auspicious comeback performance while auditioning for America’s Got Talent in 2013. His rendition of “Make You Feel My Love” captured the nation’s heart. The Bob Dylan single that Adele took to number 1 in 2008, reintroduced Marty Brown to a new generation of American country traditionalists. His success on the popular TV show prompted a new record deal with the Independent Label Dreamline Entertainment. Brown released his fifth studio album, and first record in over 25 years, in 2019 under the Plowboy Records Label.
Marty Brown has remained true to his country music roots throughout his career. The small-town Kentucky entertainer writes and sings traditional country music from his heart. His voice is soulful, and his down-home personality friendly and relatable. The smile on his face reveals his joy as he shares his musical talents with his devoted fans. Marty Brown has lived his life, shared his love, overcome struggles, and experienced the joy and sadness of a true country artist. Marty Brown is, and will always be, a beloved Kentucky Country music icon.
