The Saga of New-Gate

East Granby Connecticut’s Old New-Gate Pr*son will be presenting while Pr*son Reimagined is on view. The Saga of New-Gate, hosted by Old New-Gate Pr*son’s Curator, Morgan Bengel will dig into the tumultuous beginnings of the Pr*son and the experimental way our criminal justice system was established. Old New-Gate Pr*son & Copper Mine is recognized as our Nation’s first chartered Copper Mine (1707) and First State Pr*son (1773). “Those distinctions did not come without trials and tribulations..” says Bengel. “Countless Pr*son escapes lend themselves to a dramatic story, with meaningful impact for our State and National history.” The Saga of New-Gate will be held Sunday, May 25th at 12:30pm at Wistariahurst. This event is sponsored by Old New-Gate Pr*son and the Holyoke Local Cultural Council.

La antigua prisión de New-Gate, en East Granby, Connecticut, acogerá la exposición Pr*son Reimagined. La Saga de New-Gate, presentada por Morgan Bengel, conservador de la antigua prisión de New-Gate, ahondará en los tumultuosos comienzos de la prisión y en la forma experimental en que se estableció nuestro sistema de justicia penal. Old New-Gate Pr*son & Copper Mine está reconocida como la primera mina de cobre del país (1707) y la primera prisión estatal (1773). «Esas distinciones no llegaron sin pruebas y tribulaciones», dice Bengel. «Las innumerables fugas de la prisión se prestan a una historia dramática, con un impacto significativo para nuestra historia estatal y nacional».
