“Snap the Dragon” – A Magical Puppet Show with a Legendary Twist!

Come join us at Holt Methodist Church for an exciting puppet show, performed by The Norwich Puppet Company.

This enchanting performance brings together the magic of dragons, knights, and princesses with a rich piece of Norwich's history!

Set in the lively town of Pockthorpe, the story kicks off during a grand street party to celebrate the new mayor. For years, the townsfolk have watched a play about a brave knight rescuing a princess from a fire-breathing dragon. But this time, the dragon isn't just a story—it's real! What follows is a comical, touching journey as the townspeople discover that, despite the dragon’s fearsome “snap,” it might not be so scary after all.

The inspiration for this puppet adventure comes from Norwich's own Snapdragon. For over 400 years, a dragon has played a starring role in the city’s annual Guild Day, a grand celebration marking the new mayor’s inauguration. Snap, a beloved civic symbol, would parade through the streets as part of the festivities, symbolizing good vs. evil in a mock battle with St. George.

This real-life dragon, adored by generations of Norwich residents, is even preserved in the Norwich Castle Museum today—an enduring symbol of the city’s rich history.

"Snap the Dragon" is recommended for children aged 4+ and offers a 50-minute, delightful mix of puppetry, music, and humor. The star of the show is a larger-than-life dragon puppet that’s sure to captivate audiences both young and old.
