W**d Day 2025 will be held at the farm on Saturday, October 4th!
A little history: W**d Day was created and hosted for over 50 years by Frances Morgan and Clara Myers of rural Monroe County, MO. It was a much-anticipated day of crafting and creating dried floral arrangements, wreaths, signs, and much more. In its heyday, over 150 women gathered from all over for this single-day event that was always held on the Morgan or Myers farm.
In memory of Frances and Clara, we're bringing folks back together again this year to create, share, laugh, and enjoy each others' company.
The idea behind W**d Day is simple and beautiful: bring your friends and any dried/preserved weeds, flowers, leaves, grapevine wreaths, etc., that you can find, collect, and preserve throughout the year. (There will be some extra materials available that day, though we do highly encourage everyone to bring a little something to share.)
We'll craft through the morning, take a break for a potluck lunch, and then head home when we're done/tired/ready. 🙂
HUGE THANKS and credit to Clara's daughter, Darlene Brickman (along with her own daughter, Heather), and Frances's children and grandchildren, for providing background information, articles, photos, and their enthusiasm for W**d Day! Also, thanks to Darlene for hosting us on the gorgeous Myers family farm again this year!
A few things to prepare and bring to W**d Day:
- dried/preserved weeds, grasses, flowers, fruits, leaves, etc., to share (we'll share more info and how-tos as we get closer)
- a food dish to share for lunch (keep in mind, refrigerator space will be limited)
- containers or wreath forms to fill/decorate with weeds
- any paint and/or spray paint you may have lying around, plus paintbrushes, etc.
- clippers, scissors, floral scissors, floral foam, moss, wire, wire cutters, tools, glue/hot glue guns, adhesives, etc...essentially anything that might help us create beautiful dried arrangements, wreaths, and more
- crafting tables, lawn chairs (a few will be provided, but more welcome as we continue to grow!)
- plates, glasses, eating utensils for lunch (again, some will be provided, but we encourage all to bring their own environmentally friendly utensils)
- bug spray, sunscreen, gloves, etc., as desired
Can't wait to see you there!
