浜降祭

天保9年（1838）、寒川神社の神輿が、例年春に行われる国府祭（こうのまち）【大磯町国府本郷】に渡御した帰途、相模川の渡し場で寒川の氏子と地元の氏子が争いを起こし、川に落ちて行方不明になってしまいました。

その数日後、南湖の網元である孫七さんが漁の最中にこのご神体を発見し、寒川神社に届けたことを契機に、毎年同神社の神輿がそのお礼のため南湖の浜に赴き、「禊（みそぎ）」をするようになったと言い伝えられています。

一方、江戸時代後期に幕府がまとめた『新編相模国風土記稿』によると、鶴嶺八幡宮では寒川神社のお礼参りよりずっと古い時代から、心身の罪やけがれを清める「みぞぎ」の神事を行うため、毎年浜辺への渡御が行われていたとあります。
