What is the CHFR Program?
The Community Hazardous Fuels Reduction (CHFR)
Program is a proactive approach to removing
flammable vegetation from around identified
communities to help mitigate the impacts of wildfire.
The goal is to reduce or remove trees within five
kilometres of the community boundary. The program
works with forestry companies to adjust harvesting
plans to make an impact in reducing wildfire risks
around communities.
The program is one piece of a complex puzzle to
build wildfire resilience in Alberta.
