The GloPhi Center will host a poetry reading and discussion with the Nigerian poet Logan February. The event will take place at the outdoor seminary room of the Institute of Philosophy at the Cultural Campus (with an alternate venue, Room 50.402, in case of bad weather). February will read from their latest poetry book Mental Voodoo (2024), a collection that engages with Yorùbá language and spiritual concepts while exploring queer identity. Following the reading, a discussion will be led by Prof. Dr. Sool Park and Dr. Abosede Ipadeola, who will join February in examining the intersections of language, culture, and queerness highlighted in the poems.
Logan February, born 1999 in Anambra, Nigeria, is a non-binary poet, essayist, singer, songwriter, and LGBTQ activist. In addition to publications in literary journals, they have so far released three chapbooks—How to Cook a Ghost (2017), Painted Blue with Saltwater (2018), Garlands (2019)—and the poetry collection In the Nude (2019) as well as translations into Spanish, Italian, and Dutch. In 2020, Logan February was awarded the Future Awards Africa Prize for Literature.
