Sandy Hook Sketchbook Series:

This ranger-led art program invites visitors to look closer at the recreation area.

Find deeper meaning in the historical and environmental significance of Sandy Hook by adding to your summer sketchbook!

Designed for adults, guests can come to any one of the programs or keep coming back each session for new topics, exploring a variety of areas in the park. This series will continue through August.

Week #5: Impressions: Drawing from Historical Images 

We will look at the history of imagery surrounding the lighthouse through the new exhibit of historical images in the Lighthouse Keeper’s Quarters Museum.  

Artists will discuss about how things change and how things remain the same. We will look how different imagery have different feels to it. Artists will also learn how to create reproductions using a variety of methods and how those techniques can be used as the underbody of other works that are more imaginative. 

Depending upon the weather we will tour around the lighthouse– looking at different vantage points and continue up the lighthouse to have a chance to sketch the surrounding area from the lens room. 

New to art? Consider yourself a master? Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Come find new inspiration in your park!
