Coastal Defense Day!

Volunteers from the Army Ground Forces Association in World War Two uniform bring Battery Gunnison/New Battery Peck and its 6‐inch guns to life as they were in final modernization and activation in May 1943 when Battery Gunnison became Battery Peck. Learn about Army Harbor Defense Operations. See restored 1920’s to 1940’s vintage electric and telephone systems. Learn about Fort Hancock Army medical support. Participate in loading and aiming the guns, tracking ships, learn “artillery math”, see a WWII era working machine shop, experience the only working “M1 Collective Protector” chemical warfare protective system in the USA and experience a soldier’s life at Ft. Hancock in May 1943.
