This is my first event. I'm going to show you how to make a simple cache out of bottles caps. Bring your own materials and tools. I will have some available as well. If you have extra, sharing is a nice thing to do.
WHEN: 9:00a-10:00am Mountain Time Saturday 8/9/25
WHERE: Arapahoe Park (Blue Slide Park) N 39° 34.528 W 104° 57.076 or 7800 S Adams St, Centennial, CO 80122
You will be able to take your cache with you to hide or place.
This could turn into a series of workshops.
List of items needed to bring:
1. Two plastic bottles (per cache). Cleaned out: Same size. Gatorade or large mouth are best. Coke, Pepsi, anything with a screw off lid.
2. Original Gorilla Glue. The brownish colored liquid. This is the only type that works.
3. Clamp. Hold for 24 hours. C-clamp, Vise-grip or Quick-grip will work. Electrical tape can also work without a clamp.
4. Saw. I prefer a hack saw. The smaller the teeth the better. Not a wood saw or large toothed type saw. I use a Stanley 15-408 that works like a champ.
5. Safety gloves and safety glasses.
This Geocache container has been called a "Pop top micro" and does not have an actual user credited with the creation that I can find. Maybe someone else has more information they could share.
If you are attending, please bring safety glasses and thick safety gloves. I will not be providing insurance or cover any injuries. Band-aids and paper towels for blood only. Friendly service announcement.
From AI Google:
While specific credit for the invention of the "pop top micro geocache" isn't attributed to a single individual in the search results, it's a creative modification that emerged within the geocaching community.
The concept of using plastic bottle tops and necks to create small, waterproof containers for micro geocaches was discussed and shared within the geocaching forums, particularly by the user "Odie442" on Groundspeak forums. An Instructables guide from 2010 further elaborates on how to construct these containers, acknowledging that the idea was inspired by discussions on the forums.
Therefore, it can be said that the pop top micro geocache was a collective innovation, with "Odie442" playing a significant role in its development within the geocaching community.
