We are thrilled to welcome these two powerful essayists to Secret World Books Friday, September 5 at 7pm!
Elizabeth Earley (Gayle's friend, former student, and fellow bookshop owner of The Feminist Bookstore in San Diego, CA) will be launching her new essay collection, Little Deaths All in a Row: Essays on Sex and Death, via Jaded Ibis Press (the publishing house Elizabeth runs). This collection explores the tangled relationship between desire and mortality with raw honesty and deep vulnerability. Featuring evocative illustrations by Nicole Roberts, these essays navigate love, loss, and the body in all its transformations.
Elizabeth will be joined by Northwestern professor Danielle Bainbridge, another Jaded Ibis author, whose memoir in essays, Dandelion, is a profoundly personal exploration of the complex intersections of race, gender, queerness, and mental health. Through a collection of essays, poetry, and reflections tumbling back and forth through time, Danielle struggles to navigate the precarious balancing act of Blackness and societal pressures, chronic illness and resilience. Dandelion invites readers into a raw, no-holds-barred emotional journey, offering a unique, kaleidoscopic perspective rarely seen in mainstream media.
We hope you can join us for this profound evening celebrating these books, their authors, and the power of queer voices!
