Re: GCSE Support Information Evening 2025
I hope your child has enjoyed the start to their academic year. Many parents and carers ask how they can best support their children as they prepare for their GCSEs. Family involvement during this crucial time can make a big difference, with successful students often talking of the importance of a ‘team effort’. According to research, parental support is up to eight times more important in determining a child’s academic success than background and social circumstances.
The good news is that you do not have to be an expert in any of the subjects your child studies to make a difference. Through Years 10 and 11, the expectations of your child will start to grow and at times these expectations can be challenging to meet. By working with your child’s teachers, you can help make sure they have a good understanding of the importance of planning, independent learning, revision, exam technique and answer structure.
To support with this, we are inviting parents and carers of students in Years 10 and 11 to our GCSE support information evening on Thursday 9 October 2025. The event will take place in Riding Hall with a presentation at 5.30pm, repeated at 6.45pm. You are welcome to choose whichever of these times is most convenient, as long as spaces remain. Spaces can be booked using this link:

As seating in Riding Hall is limited, we would suggest that students do not need to attend this event. We will share this same information with them in school. Please also be aware that the slides and information that we will share will be similar to that which was covered in our Information Evening in Autumn 2024 so Year 11 parents and carers may be familiar with it already.
We are producing an online information booklet which has guidance on exam boards, controlled assessment, rules of exams, support materials and other top tips. This will be available on the evening and also on the school website during the week of Monday 13 October. We will also have an additional Year 11 GCSE Preparation Support event for parents in the Spring Term in the run up to the summer exams. More details on this will follow.
