Filippo Gorini’s SONATA FOR 7 CITIES arrived in South Africa on 21 August.
30-year-old Italian pianist Filippo Gorini, hailed as “an heir to Pollini” (Corriere della Sera) and praised for his “brave, original playing” (The Guardian), is currently based between Cape Town and Stellenbosch for five weeks of performances and outreach as part of his visionary philanthropic project, Sonata for 7 Cities.
With a poetic programme that journeys from a newly commissioned work to Schubert’s final sonata, his recitals form the centrepiece of his South African visit. SA is the second stop in a tour that began at the Vienna Konzerthaus and will bring audiences into the heart of an artistic journey that unites performance and social impact.
In the Overberg he held a workshop with the HANDEVAT MUSIC PROJECT in Kleinmond.
On 21 September, hosted by Overstrand Arts/Kunste (OAK), he will perform in the Civic Auditorium in Hermanus at 15:30 and play the following programme:
Sonata d’Altura (2021-24) by Gardella; Kreisleriana Op. 16 by Robert Schumann and Sonata in B Flat, D960 by Franz Schubert.
Tickets are R250 and available from René du Plooy on 082 940 4238 or at
